Elizabeth lay on her bed in her room. An original Antonio Stradivarius violin was propped up on her knees. The priceless antique was the most expensive object in her room and, technically, she wasn't even allowed to touch it. But every once in a while, she pulled it off it's shelf on the wall, and played with it for a little. The shelf was too high for her to reach normally, but if she pushed her desk over and stood on her tip-toes on top of it, she could reach. She carefully plucked each string individually, and found that the E string was out of tune. Very carefully she began turning the fine-tuner, holding her breath, and hoping that the string wouldn't break. She briefly contimplated the consiquences if she were to be caught.

As Aro glided through the hallways of the Volturi's castle he heard the light plucking of an out of tune violin, coming from one of the room in the east wing of the castle. His brows furrowed as he headed torwards the noise. The gently thrumming of a heart beat from inside the room called to him. Aro quickly opened and closed the door behind him, slipping into the room silently. He noticed his adoptive daughter, Elizabeth Mary, tuning the original Antonio Stradivarius.
"Now Elizabeth, I do hope you're being careful," he smiled at his daughter as he crossed his arms infront of him.

Elizabeth jumped as she heard her father talking to her. "Sorry, Daddy." She said sheepishly. "I just wanted to look at it for a while. I couldn't help myself. I promise I'm being careful." At least it was him and not her Uncle Caius who had caught her. From her father, she could expect a gentle reprimand. But from Caius, she would get a full-blown lecture on the importance of obedience, and then confiscate the violin for the rest of the month. And that was on a good day. Speaking of her uncle... "Where's Uncle Marcus and Uncle Caius? I thought you were having a meeting today with them."

Aro glided across the room and sat on the end of the bed. "I was on the way to meet them when I heard you, my sweet." he smiled. "It won't harm them to wait a few extra minutes. What are you planning on doing today, Elizabeth? I'm sure Heidi would go shopping with you if you wanted to get out of the castle for a while." He often worried about her being cooped up all day, He knew how difficult she found it being the only human in the castle.

Elizabeth shook her head. "I don't want to go shopping with Heidi. She thinks I'm a human Barbie doll. I was going to take a walk in the gardens, but that was before it started raining." She gestured to the window. "I think I'll go read in the library. I haven't finished "Interview With the Vampire" yet." She had read the book four times already. She was bored, honestly, but the last thing she wanted to do was go shopping with the beautiful Heidi. Any time she was out shopping with any of the guard besides her mother, she felt awkward. Just being around most of them made her take a hit to her self-esteem. Her skin was as pale as any of the other women's, but it didn't look beautiful like it did on Heidi or Renata. She looked like work pony next to a thoroughbred stallion guard member.

Aro laughed at his daughter and shook his head, "Honestly Elizabeth, how many times are you going to read that book? I simply don't understand how you can want to read a fictional novel about vampires when you have the real thing right infront of you!" he smiled. He moved closer and sat next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, remembering to be careful. He couldnt wait untill Elizabeth would be changed, he knew she would be a wonderful Volturi Princess.

Elizabeth laughed at Aro's exclamation, and replied, "Sometimes, Daddy, the truth is stranger than fiction. Besides, it's intersting to see what the humans think of you." She leaned her head aganist her father's shoulder, just under his collarbone. She loved the feeling of his arm around her. Yes, it felt heavy to her, but it was a comforting weight, like a thick woolen blanket in the winter time. She strummed the now in-tune strings of the violin, letting the sound ring out into the room. She suddenly stopped the vibrations with her finger, a thought crepping into her head that bothered her. She looked up at her father. "Daddy," she asked, "Why haven't you change me yet? I'll be sixteen in a few months. That's two years older than Jane and Alec were when you changed them. I don't understand."

Aro looked down at Elizabeth and smiled slightly, "Well,"he sighed, "Your change was going to be one of the things I brought up with Marcus and Caius in the meeting. I guess it's up to you really, did you want to wait until your sixteenth birthday? Or would you rather wait until you're a little bit older? If you waited 'till you were, let's say, eighteen you would be able to do so much more."he smiled down at his daughter. He wondered briefly if she would have a gift when she was changed. There was no way she would be part of the guard, he would protect her with his life.

Elizabeth stared at him in shock. Had two years of begging finally payed off? "Are you serious? Were you really thinking of changing me?" She could only think of two things that could've changed his mind: Her mother had finally taken her side or someone had found out. "I don't know if I could wait that long. But what what more could I do? College? I'm not even allowed outside of Volterra."

"Now, now I never said you would be changed, I just said I would discuss it with your Uncles. We just want to keep you safe and having talked to your Mother she seems to feel that the only sure fire way to protect you would be to change you. You know I would rather wait, but if it's the only option we will have to do what we have to do"he stated clearly "And no, you wouldn't be allowed out of Volterra for a while, not until you could be near humans without being tempted. The only blood for you would be the humans Heidi brings us, we couldn't have you running off and killing with abandon."he smirked, thinking of all the humans out there in the city, none of them with any idea what really happened in the castle.

And now we're back to where we started. Elizabeth thought, sighing. Her father's definition of "discuss" would most likely mean that he'd mention it in passing. "I'm not allowed out of Volterra anyways, so it won't make much difference." She said, a hint of bitterness in her voice. She had spent most of her life in the castle. A year as a newborn wouldn't make much difference. But she wanted to travel with the guard, see the world. But Aro had never let her farther than the city wall. She had never been outside. A sudden idea struck her. "Hey, Daddy, I know this is a bit of a strange request, but can I go on the next trip that the guard makes? I promise I wouldn't be too much trouble."

Aro sighed and looked into his daughters pleading eyes. "I don't know Elizabeth, it really wouldn't be safe. You're far to precious to go off with the guard," he muttered the last part mostly to himself, and cringed when he watched his daughters face drop. "But,"he said quickly"Your Uncles and I have been thinking about taking a trip to America to visit another coven in Washington to visit an old friend of mine, and maybe if you can promise me that you won't leave my sight then you can join us."he smiled at his daughter, maybe it would do her good to get out of Volterra, he would have to check with Sulpicia, to see if she wanted to join them. She would be able to keep Elizabeth company when he was discussing business with Carlisle.

An excited thrill ran through Elizabeth. "America, really? Would you really let me go?" Rome was as far as she was willing to dream about going. America was much farther than that. She barely spoke any English. "Are you going to see Carlisle and his coven?" She had hear about the Olympic coven before. She knew that Carlisle Cullen had lived with her father and uncles once, a long time ago, but had left for reasons that were left unexplained to her. She had heard rumors about the doctor and his family's odd lifestyle. "I would very much like to meet him and his family."

Aro smiled down at his daughter, "Yes we are going to see Carlisle's coven, we're just going to... visit them for a while," he smirked. He didn't want his daughter to know the real reason they were going. He would have to talk to Jane about joining them, he needed as much help as he could get. The guard was starting to slack, he needed the mind reader, the Clairvoyant and the shield. The power they would hold in the Volturi would be incredible. "You wouldn't be the only human food eating person around either," he smiled, he knew how uncomfortable she found it when she would stay home and the rest of the coven would be having their human blood feast.

Elizabeth smiled at her father's joke. "As long as it's not Santiago who's cooking." Various members of the guard took turns cooking for her, and it seemed that none of the guard could remember what human food was supposed to taste like. She was able to grin and bear it for most part, but Santiago's food was the hardest for her to stomach, or even swallow. He didn't seem to grasp the concept of "Too much chili power." "When are we leaving? Soon, I hope." She sounded like a toddler promised a sweet after a long day of work, but, for the record, she honestly didn't care.
